Great experience for advocacy but not so great on career progression

- Flexible hours - in court advocacy - no two days the same - great work / life balance

Cons

- limited in career progression - bureaucracy as is typical in the civil service - often long hours preparing for court at the beginning

Too many non operational managers making operational decisions. If you don't understand the work, don't get involved in decision making!

Heavy workload, underpaid and lack of support

Pros

- good experience and networking opportunity if you want to become a barrister (opportunity to go to present cases in court 3x per week) - cases are interesting and great opportunity to learn about immigration law & country policy - excellent for skills development (advocacy, time management, writing legal submissions)

Cons

- most of management are useless; very poorly managed unit, lack of support from managers - lack of career progression - senior caseworker advice often not legally correct or accurate which causes a problem when you need to relay this information in court to a judge - salary - underpaid once you become more experienced
