Pros

- Friendly people - Constant opportunities for learning and development - Ability to progress quickly if you have the right network - Transferable skills throughout other gov depts and can take skills privately if so wished. - Social meet-ups - Good work/life balance and active encouragement of healthy balance - Emphasis on mental health in the workplace, have a free mental health hotline available for HO workers.

Cons

- Communication is poor, changes made without wider awareness, lots of moving parts - Recruitment is painfully slow 3+ months sometimes - Pay is often wrong when starting, some people unpaid for months - Commissions sometimes feel arbitrary - Can be sluggish, but perhaps expected of gov. - Can be extremely busy
