Pros

Pay is moderately good if your prepared to work shifts

Cons

There is little to no work life balance. It's all about the business not the workers.

Pros

The salary is very good. Work with an extremely diverse workforce. Excellent pension scheme. Opportunity to join different teams. Undertaking casework is interesting - use problem-solving and analysis skills and employ sound judgement when making decisions.

Cons

Extremely anti-social hours. This leads to a poor work-life balance. Work can sometimes be monotonous. Can sometimes feel a bit nepotistic, and success can sometimes be based on who you know rather than what you know.

Pros

One of the times top 50 places for women to work for last 3 years A huge range of jobs - ranging from operational roles in HM Passport Office, UK Visas, immigration enforcement and Border Force aswell as roles dealing with counter terrorism , crime and policing and HQ roles such as, strategy, policy, finance, commercial etc It has an incredibly diverse workforce in every sense of the word The department has two vital overarching objectives -to promote economic growth and to protect the UK - they are both objectives which make you feel proud to be contributing to. You progress on merit and there is always opportunities to develop It's nothing like yes minister!

Cons

You have to be realistic about the roles you can do - don't choose to be a Border Force Officer if you can only work 9-5 : that's not when most planes land or ships dock In times of austerity and even at the best of times you are not going to get huge pay rises. Ever.
