Pros

There are a lot of smart people working there, which makes for an interesting experience no matter the role. Product-driven company with a product that’s actually good.

Cons

Product-driven company so as an engineer this means you’re working at a feature factory. You’ll have little agency no matter how senior you are. Bang out a ton of tickets and the people who matter will love you for it, never mind if you leave a wake of steaming technical debt for your teammates to deal with. Enjoy pager duty!

Pros

Talent -- For a long time, Hopper's greatest strength was in recruitment. The company had a knack for recruiting talented, resilient and above all loyal individuals. Great health benefits -- Very generous health benefit plan. Cool offices/flexible work from Home policy -- The office is well equipped with snacks and such. It's comfortable and spacious. Used to subsidize transport -- but that may have recently ceased in COVID cutbacks.

Cons

No direction or vision -- Hopper is like a teenager with growing pains and an underdeveloped prefrontal cortex. It has a vague idea of what it wants, but makes major business decisions without thorough research. Which is very ironic for a "data driven start-up". Zero accountability -- The company motto appears to be: We will (maybe, probably) deal with this later. Weak leadership -- When things are good, the company is functional, but we all know that a company's strength is measured by its response in times of crisis. Hopper's is abysmal. When things go wrong, leadership flails, forgets how to speak or listen. Ethically bankrupt -- Internally, the company has some serious and unaddressed issues with nepotism and discrimination. Forget merit, performance or competence: if you are well liked or well connected you will go further. I won't even go into detail about how the company treats its customers. All you need to know is available free of charge on Trustpilot. Company culture, what company culture? -- What does Hopper stand for? Besides trees, I could not tell you ‘cause we all know that “customer obsession“ thing is a big reach.
