One of the best decisions I've ever made

Pros

I've been at Hopper for over three years and absolutely love it. There's a really high bar here when it comes to hiring because everyone that works here is exceptionally talented. It's a super collaborative environment so I've learned a ton just from working with other departments and teams. You forge deep relationships and friendships with colleagues because people tend to stick around for the long haul. I left my last job because it had a lot of hierarchy and micromanaging. Hopper is the complete opposite. The company really embraces autonomy and there's tremendous growth opportunities if you are willing to take ownership and drive real business impact. Being a high growth startup, projects and priorities can change so if you're someone who needs a lot of structure and stability then it may not be the best fit for you. It's awesome to work on a product that users really love! I have complete faith in the leadership team and the company's sales and revenues are up over 100%+ YoY. Things are moving fast, but it's a really exciting time to be at Hopper!

Cons

You must be willing to embrace the challenges that come with scaling a company that is in high growth mode.

Well-intentioned mismanagement

Pros

* Incredibly talented(and fun) coworkers * Flexible time off/ work from home * Flashy company - lots of name recognition in the travel space * Challenging problems to solve

Cons

* First time managers are not equipped to handle their teams, leading to fumbled projects and increased anxiety around what could be easy wins. * The CEO constantly gets too in the weeds on projects and upends steady progress with never ending pipe dreams. He has an aggressive and manic communication style that leads people to move too quickly and create unscalable solutions in order to meet his unrealistic requests. He is a fantastic salesmen and uses his powers to bully people into doing things against their better judgement. * There have been constant reorganizations, leaving talented people stranded. * Bad communication from the top down. Everyone takes a childish and gossip driven approach to communicating company wide announcements. Being "in the know" becomes invaluable currency to navigating the workplace eco-system. * A lot of in-betweeners who were vital at earlier stages start to lose their footing because no one has experience scaling a company successfully.
