Pros

Overall, my experience as an employee at Hopper has been far from satisfactory. The laughable equity program, the lack of originality in policies, the questionable product offerings, and the arrogant leadership have left me disillusioned. I would caution anyone considering a career at Hopper to carefully evaluate their priorities and ambitions before joining a company that seems more interested in cost-cutting and imitation than in fostering a thriving and innovative work environment..

Cons

As a current employee at Hopper, I feel compelled to share my disappointments and frustrations regarding the company. While there are a few positives, such as the option to work from home (WFH), the cons heavily outweigh any benefits I have experienced. One of the major drawbacks of working at Hopper is the joke of an equity program. Despite promises of potential financial gains, employees are only allowed to vest a measly 3% of their vested shares. This lack of equity distribution significantly diminishes the incentives for employees to stay with the company and work towards its success. It seems that Hopper is more interested in hoarding the majority of the equity for themselves rather than rewarding their hardworking employees. Furthermore, it is disheartening to discover that Hopper's policies are essentially copied and pasted from Amazon. Originality and independent thinking are vital in the tech industry, yet Hopper seems content with mimicking the practices of a larger competitor. This lack of innovation raises concerns about the company's ability to stand out in a highly competitive market. Perhaps the most troubling aspect of Hopper is its major product, Price Freeze, which is nothing more than a scam. AI language model, such as ChatGPT, could easily replace this supposedly groundbreaking feature. It is disheartening to work for a company that relies on deceptive tactics to lure customers, rather than providing genuinely valuable and innovative solutions. Note : There are several pending lawsuits about this product

Pros

Remote Work, Unlimited PTO's and some highly skilled engineers. A very enthusiastic culture and a decent technical stack. Competitive salaries.

Cons

Hopper considers people as just resources and follows a hire and fire model. In some sense it actually worst than the Amazon PIP Culture. The keeper test is real. After passing a three month review period you would think that your job is now secure and you align with your manager's expectations but that's not true; Hopper is infamous for letting a lot of workers go before the one year stock vesting. You don't get any performance review or a PIP, you are just let go without any explanation. It seems like the managers have an unfair power to let people go without investing much into them. The WLB in my opinion is decent but can sometimes lead to burn out. When it comes to management there is no clear goal or strategy; there are number and some vague plans to achieve them which often change based on some meaningless experiments and premature data.

Pros

- Extremely smart, incredibly ambitious people across all teams and disciplines. - The most entrepreneurial group of people you'll ever work with. A dozen or more leaders with founder experience working on what are effectively their own businesses. If you want to start a company one day, this is the place for you to learn in a hands-on way how to build. - Massive $1T+ leisure travel market and easy to imagine going into other massive markets. You will never get bored if you like solving hard problems. - Very strong data culture. Almost every conversation and meeting we're showing, manipulating, and/or referencing data. This leads to a lot of real-time, fast, collaborative, fun problem-solving and decision-making. - Very fast-paced. Working cycles are short. We value speed above many other things, and this is sometimes uncomfortable but frequently leads to tremendous results. - Great pay, great benefits. - Utmost working flexibility (e.g. time of day, location, etc.). - Not surprisingly, the people you work with love to travel. People take real vacations and travel frequently. - Strong culture that management has put countless hours and tremendous thought into. Very deliberate about this from hiring to onboarding to promoting, etc.

Cons

- While collaboration is strong within teams, it is not strong (or valued in many cases) across teams. Our single-threaded ownership model actively prevents collaboration in many cases to optimize for adding value to customers as quickly as possible. - With tremendous flexibility and great pay comes great expectations. You will be expected to be the best of the best at what you are hired for. - With great ambition comes great pressure. If you don't like pressure or hard work, Hopper isn't for you.
