Pros

* Great PR and Growth Teams * Excellent creativity on company apparel and swag (illustrator is amongst the best in the game) * Smart & Humble people * Fun product and industry to be in * Competitive Salary * Great office environments in Montreal and Cambridge

Cons

* Upper level leadership has generally not had experience actually scaling a company to IPO * Lack of cohesive long-term product and growth strategy * Abysmal ability to manage releases on both iOS and Android for age of company * CEO is too "in the weeds" * In vs Out Culture - if you're "in" then you can do any role even if you're not qualified for it * Absolutely no learning and development initiatives or career pathing

Stay FAR FAR Away!

Pros

Benefits and compensation are strong. There's nothing else.

Cons

CEO / Co-Founder is verbally and emotionally abusive and when he's not he just ignores you. Other Co-Founders just sit back and let him be that way because they appear too afraid to say or do anything. There is a lack of any clear strategy and cross-office collaboration - people just bend over to the CEO and his daily tyrants. Values are copied from Amazon - super original - and rarely practiced by any leaders. So in summary, if you want to be over-worked, under-appreciated and made to feel horrible on a daily basis then Hopper is the place for you!

Pros

Good base salary Unlimited PTO and actually can use it Great benefits Smart coworkers Lots of autonomy Scala is cool

Cons

Our CEO said in a recent profile (meant as positive PR!) that "employee happiness is not a goal". Believe him! It's not. Everything bad about Hoppers culture is 100% by design. They WANT employees to feel insecure in their job all the time. They WANT teams to be really just a few brilliant individual contributors that occasionally exchange token words with each other to undermine each other and try to get ahead. You will be treated like a replaceable part no matter how good your work is, because how good you are doesn't really matter all that much, either. There are plenty of people capable of doing this job for a year, which is all Hopper seems to care to keep people around for even if they don't leave of their own accord. It's a mess. Your reward for doing a good job is you get to have more of the same mess and chaos until the next round of layoffs. THIS IS YOUR BEST CASE SCENARIO.
