Pros

Compared to what else is available in this area, the pay is okay. The cafeteria food is varied but the area itself is crowded because the work site is huge with 1700 IBMers alone at the site. Raytheon also shares the same eatery along with a small high school. Parking is plentiful. Being able to work with technology is great, provided that it works as described. Commaderie is great IF one can break into the established network. One can jump start a career at IBM but don't stay too long to avoid being pigeon holed into a specialty which does not translate well into the outside world.

Cons

Lack of management support, technical savvy, nepotism, and discrimination. Bathroom floors are painted a disgusting color, faucets don't match, and soap dispensers constantly drip a glowing, stinky, pink soap. Managers are often unaware of what the teams are doing. Hence, technically ignorant. Nepotism and favoritism is rampant, making management issues even worse. Discrimination against any employee is a career hazard to the point where employees are fearful of revealing a disability, especially by accident. Microwaves are wired to a single minute timer because a secretary burned popcorn which triggered the smoke alarms and caused the building to be evacuated. Twice. Imagine being treated as a neglected child. It's worse than that at IBM.

Pros

Flextime, flex workplace help with personal/work life balance.

Cons

Annual ranking system can be oppressive, and ranking results seldom reflect the real contributions of "quieter" employees. Solid performers who prefer to shun the limelight are frequently left lower in the rankings than they should, and this in turn can have negative repercussion on their salary levels and employment security. Too many managers reward flash in the annual rankings, even unproductive flash, ahead of solid contributors working out of the spotlight. Downsizing and threat of further downsizing is creating a culture of climbing over coworker's backs at any cost to stay ahead of the pack.

Pros

IBM still does have a decent benefits package - Insurance, sick leave. Even though the cost is much higher that we have paid in the past, it is still much lower and coverage is better than what you can get on the outside.

Cons

Hours - management thinks that we should be living, dying breathing IBM. We are penalized for things that are out of our control. Lack of respect from management. Many feel that we do not have the intelligence to do our jobs.
