Looking for a job in claims? Stay away….stay FAR away.
Pros
Great co-workers, collaborative problem-solving environment between everyone- which is needed, when management is overturned constantly and no one knows who’s in charge half the time. Lower management has an impossible job on their hands, but they do their best. Lots of equal opportunities here. Women and minorities are present at all levels. The people on the front lines are the best. Too bad the good ones are currently all looking for jobs somewhere else.
Cons
Where does one start? The workload is at LEAST double what the industry standard is, while they proudly state their pay is ‘in line’ with that same industry. In other words, they love you working twice as much….. for the same pay. And it’s been like this for years now. Management are slaves to stats, while ignoring the burnout factor all around them. People are taking stress leave ALL THE TIME. The company is also happy to say they write almost 25% of all the personal lines business in Canada, but conveniently ignore that they’re so badly understaffed and underpay their workers that they can’t service the business they’re taking on. Don’t look here for work if you’re with another insurance company, and have industry experience- they won’t pay a dime more than you’re already making, or offer more than 3 weeks vacation. They only hire newbies/ beginners who just ‘want a job’ because they don’t put value on experience. Anyone can do this job, in their mind. My advice: If you have a claim with Intact, it seriously pays to complain. They will overpay claims BIG TIME to make you happy and avoid media complaints. Say you’re “going to the media” and you’ll cash in. They only care about the stock price. It’s such a scam.
