Pros

None, it is tanking in every way possible.

Cons

I just took the mandatory course on climate change. The air reeks of hypocrisy at the moment. There was a tip that I could reduce my carbon footprint by “reducing the number of flights you take every year”. Don’t make me LOL Charles, you’re the one taking multiple flights every year. Where in the World is Climate Criminal Charles? Madrid a couple of weeks ago, South Africa currently? How many flights to date in 2023, Charles? I know it's hard to remember as a millionaire, but the rest of us are actually in a recession. No flights and luxury holidays for anyone on the front-line. Charles and his recent brag about his luxury holiday to South Africa, paired with Louis and his tone-deaf RTO announcement, has caused me to completely disengage with this company. I know it’s the wrong place for me long-term, and I no longer feel proud to recommend it to friends. I’m embarrassed about how hard I work for such low pay, and how corporate and conservative it has become since Louis was appointed. I have heard nothing from any upper management on the negative response to Louis’s announcement, and the silence is speaking volumes to me. Ironically, the most miserable days I’ve had in the office have been after the RTO announcement, because of all the rage and animosity workers are feeing toward Louis. I personally consider him my arch-nemesis. Yes, Louis, it is personal. It is my personal life and my personal time you are asking me for. It is my time with my family, my time to sleep, to cook healthy meals, to sit quietly in the sun, to exercise, and to otherwise enjoy my life. Not all of us want to live in the office. I certainly hope the Board steps in soon. As a shareholder myself, stocks are plummeting; employee engagement and satisfaction is plummeting; respect for our leaders, including Charles, is plummeting; and our competitors are actively trying to poach us on socials. In terms of Louis's job performance, this is pretty poor, don't you think? Can someone give him some "feedback", or is his little ego too fragile for that? RTO and commuting disproportionately affects women. It disproportionately affects anyone with childcare or other care-giving duties. It disproportionately affects those with disabilities. It disproportionately affects new Canadians, immigrants, and anyone who's struggling to make ends meet. Louis has never experienced hate crimes due to being a visible minority on public transit, but that is what he is asking his employees to subject themselves to with increasing frequency. The company already has a diversity problem, especially as you climb higher and higher to the top, and they're not going to attract diverse or exciting talent with their current low pay, poor work-life balance, and old-school boys club way of running their business. As a woman of colour, I do not feel Intact represents me anymore. I am wrapping up some courses, and taking a few more courses in the meantime, but my new plan is to leave in 2023. I want to work for someone who understands and relates to me, who cares about diversity and the planet, and someone who doesn't berate me for not wanting to spend all my time at work. Sorry, my colleagues are wonderful people, but I have a life, and it ain’t all about Intact.

By far the worst department

Pros

Nothing. There is literally not much I can think of because the bad outweighs the good tremendously at this organization. I have been in several departments at Intact and claims is literally the WORST. A pro would probably be your peers but to be honest no one is really friendly because everyone is in such a bad mood constantly because of the work pressure.

Cons

Low pay. Way too much work to do. Be prepared to be yelled at by clients if you cannot get to them in a timely manner which you won’t be able to. Take my word for it, I am the most organized person and i can barely keep up with my desk. It is so messy and it gives me stress. The managers pass snarky comments and expect you to do EVERYTHING. How is that possible? This job is so not worth it. I am leaving the organization once I have a back up plan. If you really need the money, stay here. Be prepared to be worked to the bone and work overtime. If you want to feel depressed then this is the place for you. I haven’t felt the same since I started this job. There is so much high turnover for a reason. You can do better, don’t apply here.

Intact Response

We’re very disappointed that this has been your experience, and we hear you. Over the past 20 months, high demand and turnover have been a challenge for customer service industries across North America. At Intact, regardless of pandemics or market conditions, our top priority is to help people in good times and bad, and this includes our team members. We want our colleagues to have the support and balance they need to be and do their best and we’re taking action. We’re in the process of growing our claims teams across Canada which will certainly help alleviate workload stress for those experiencing it. You’ve made your voice heard and we will share this review with our Claims leadership team. As a next step, we encourage you to reach out to your HR Consultant to discuss your concerns about workload, management, and your well-being. They are skilled advisors who can help foster positive solutions. Wherever your career journey takes you, even if it’s not with our team, we truly wish you all the best.

Pros

Company has great benefits. Flex days, pension, employee shares, etc. Management in my department is amazing. No micromanaging, you get to do your job and they trust you'll go to them if they are needed. There is a survey done each year on engagement and the company feely took the feedback to heart and increased increased mental health benefits to significantly higher than industry standard.

Cons

The work life balance was great at Intact, you went into the office on an as-needed basis. This spring is was announced that there is now a mandatory 2 days in office requirement each week, no exceptions. I started with intact during Covid and the work from home arrangement was one of the biggest reasons I wanted to join the company. When the announcement was made there was a lot of back lash from employees, so much so that the forum was removed from our site as there were too many negative comments. For me personally, the back to office mandate is going to cost four hours stuck in traffic each week, $150 in parking a month, $60 in gas, and $300 in daycare fees for the additional childcare I'll need. This is a significant cost in addition to taking time away from my family. Raises were handed out and the measly 3% increase does nothing to make up for these costs, let alone come close to provide an appropriate adjustment for inflation during this cost of living crisis. It was disappointing given I'd received "exceeds expectations" on my review to find out that it didn't really matter. It seems like Intact is going down the same rout as a lot of companies, if you want to see any significant growth in your pay you either need to move to a different role in the company or jump ship and work somewhere else. It's unfortunate because I genuinely love my team and the work that I do. I can easily see myself working here for the rest of my career. But with the salary not keeping up with the cost of living there will be a point where I need to leave for better pay. As I said above the benefits package is great, but it doesn't put food on the table.
