Old company

Pros

Good benefits and pay. Great opportunity to learn many different systems outside of the chemical process you own.

Cons

Old company with bad work culture. A lot of “well back in my day we stayed awake for 48 hours. . “ Being attached to the 24/7 fab causes work life balance to be really bad unless you really fight for healthy hours. No effort is put into guiding employees on how to put in healthy hours. Very limited training. You will have to get used to not knowing enough on every job you take otherwise you will burn out. Due to limited organizational foresight, life can be amazing or a living nightmare depending on the type of tools you own. Also, the company long term outlook is not great. The CEO and board should have spun off the fabs in 2021. Now they are losing there value in the billions each year because we get further and further away from the leading edge nodes of TSMC.

Pros

High focus on safety for employees Company is genuinely dedicated to principled environmental policy Generally high competence among the engineers

Cons

Intel is a big ship, and can be very bureaucratic so getting things done is often a greater challenge to my paperwork abilities than to my engineering skills Work culture can be rather stuffy Being an engineer can require some high output weeks (I once worked ~330 hours in three weeks and received two compensation days for it)
