Pros

Free Food Great work life balance Strong relationships with people(Pretentious) Get better at sucking up to managers and life in general

Cons

Standard Solution: ATK is one firm where you will learn to form pretentious relationships to be highly pretentious at work. Every problem has a standard solution of making a Powerpoint and then organizing a Practice Leaders(PLs) meet where things like pros and cons of sending a standard reply in 30 mins is discussed. In addition to this the PLs come to office at 11 and leave at 5:45 sharp so that they don't miss their gym or other classes. The research unit has become nothing more than a call center(and the crowd says it all) TLs and PLs: The Team Leaders(TLs) and PLs serve no other purpose but to sort their mailbox and forward the requests to juniors. Whereas they are involved in making Qualification packs and useless BD work which take nothing more than an hour. In addition to this rest of the time is involved in shopping, talking to their bfs/ husbands/gfs/wives and telling maids what food is to be cooked and how it is to be cooked. Appraisal Cycle: Every person is guaranteed a promotion after one year no matter how dumb you are, even if you don't know how to insert filter in an excel sheet, don't worry your promotion is taken care of. This serves as a serious disincentive to people who are diligent and work hard and then they also end up being complacent. Managers: Being friends with your manager and other managers is a core component of your job description. If you want an easy life just like your manager, all you have to do is be their good friends. Work from Home is the only work managers do, which is basically an unaccounted leave. People who suck up to their managers in parties and go out for drinks with them are the ones who can given the best appraisal and salary hike.

Pros

Pay is good Some colleagues are awesome

Cons

Egocentric consulting firm - led by immature consultants who are promoted for their great slide-making abilities but who are inept at people management; I generalize as there really are a few gems, but they seem to leave/get pushed out leaving the Prima Donnas behind Up or out culture - leads to backstabbing behaviour by some colleagues to try and get ahead of others by putting them down behind their backs in the hopes that they get let go first; especially true in the current economic climate Highly political and toxic - blame always going downwards with responsibility never taken by leadership, name-calling by leaders, negative feedback is almost universally in areas which are highly subjective while positive feedback is rarely given Poor work/life balance - this is expected in consulting, some nights may only get three hours of sleep

Pros

Junior Associate to Junior Managers are good, talented people. Probably just missed MBB and so are smart. Plenty to learn. Internal training seemed pretty good.

Cons

Principle and Partners are DREADFUL. Many long in the tooth, hangers on who are in reality super managers not principles or partners as you would see at other firms. They are all basically procurement specialists (you'll be handed a copy of The CPO at some stage for sure). Many lack personality and there is very little in the way of leadership qualities including the integrity to make tough calls or take the time to develop people. Diversity means just getting more women into the firm not actually getting talent from other spheres in. I came from a non traditional background and one of the principles asked for me to be removed from a project because apparently I had nothing to offer. By this she meant I hadn't worked in...you guessed it...procurement before.
