Company is driven on fear

Pros

Unfortunately when upper management is the problem there is no pros present. It is the trickle down effect. You might have a great director but you will feel the harsh reality of a toxic environment within days of working here.

Cons

Working at Lidl is working in fear, being discriminated against, and having no support. They bring over European leadership & do not teach them basic US working laws. Let me clarify - Not all of the European directors/ senior managers are bad. But clearly HR needs to recognize the toxic teams and look to their management for Responsiblity. Not the employees. Watching upper management scream at directors because of their miscommunication and instill fear into employees is not how to be a leader let alone grow a scessful company. Comical this company thought they could be employer of choice with such demeaning management.

Pros

The money was good in my opinion. I got a $10k increase three years in a row without being promoted and I got several bonuses. They sent me to Europe for my first time, almost all expenses paid for a year. They even provided free flights for family to come visit me. I couldn’t believe that I had such an amazing opportunity only a year out of college. I was given a lot of responsibility and I was in rooms with board members, executives, and even the CEO. I gained a lot of experience developed several skills.

Cons

They favor Europeans over Americans and non- minorities over minorities. They constantly brought over people from Europe to do jobs that I feel should have gone to existing or new US employees. The work life balance at the corporate office is non existent. Then when people quit they will add their workload to yours despite the fact that you are already working 60+ hours per week. Theh have no clue what their strategy is and keep changing directions which requires the same work to be done over and over again. The deadlines are completely unrealistic and management is a revolving door of Europeans who don’t know the US market and insist on implementing European standards in the US. It really disappoints me that it turned out how it did.

Pros

We were paid a good salary.

Cons

Higher level management talks to people without real understanding of the projects they are working on. So they sell some idea but don't understand any aspect of its execution. The one senior manager I worked with made several racist comments towards me which I wrote off as being some type of European sensibility. Overall a bad employment experience for me. They didn't know what they are doing and kind of jerking their employees around. Maybe things have changed? Also, the whole culture, values, or work satisfaction speeches you get at orientation are a complete joke. They literally could care less.
