Pros

the pay if scheduled correctly

Cons

everything where do i start. no work life balance at all. this company is a JOKE! all that training was a waist of time. poor scheduling. how do you expect someone to survive off of 7 hours a week??? then they get mad if you have another job. and dont let them find out your resigning. they will take you off of the schedule until your two weeks is up. never heard of a company to do this in my life. lets not forget you guys came to america we didnt come to germany

Pros

I have worked at Lidl for just under two months now. Having worked for several other retailers, overall I’d say it’s the best I have worked for. - 10% discount card (15% at certain times of year, I.e. Christmas). Not as good as what other retailers offer, but the prices are already cheap so this adds up to a decent saving over time. - Generally a good variety of work. Tills, cleaning, admin, stock replenishment, customer service, baking... you’ll do it all, keeping tedium at bay. Initially though, you will be landed on a till all day, which can be frustrating. - Good guidance available when needed. You’re never left to fend for yourself, as is the case in other retailers. - Headsets. Being able to communicate with your team and managers at any time makes life so much easier. In other retailers I have worked for, you can waste hours upon hours just looking for people you need to speak to. - Flexibility. You could work early mornings, to closes at night and everything in between. Early morning shifts start at 5.30AM, which may seem daunting, but the shift goes by much quicker than a later one. I’ve had no trouble getting a particular day off if I need it, so long as I inform my managers in a reasonable time. - Friends. Small stores and small workforces means you’ll get to know colleagues quickly and make friends.

Cons

- A 10PM finish does not mean a 10PM finish. My store closes at 9 which should mean we get to leave at 10. However, if there are things needing done you are expected to stay. Sometimes I haven’t left until almost midnight. - Lack of benefits. Other than the discount card there’s nothing really. There are staff offers on the training terminal (a sort of tablet in the staff area) but you’ll never be shown how to use it, nor are the deals particularly good. - Lack of breaks. 4+ hour is meant to be a 15 minute break, 6+ 30 mins. In reality, you won’t get a break if you’re only doing 4-5 hours. If you’re doing a long shift you’ll still only get 30 mins. I’ve worked 12 hours before and only got half an hour. - Unfair splitting of work. Some workers will always get kushy jobs, like working in the bakery or casually working stock during the day, whilst others will always get the less good ones like cleaning outside, manning a till etc. At first I thought this was down to experience, but really it seems to be at the manager’s whim according to who they like best.

Thanks for your review, we're glad you've had a good experience overall and appreciate your feedback. There are lots of additional benefits available to you, and your line manager or local PWC should be able to advise on how best to access them. The points for development you have raised can also be discussed with your PWC. Thanks again and keep up the great work!
