Pros

The employer’s name on your CV might impress people, but working here was the most disappointing experiences of my career.

Cons

The management culture is the most toxic I have experienced. Many managers and senior managers appear far more concerned with protecting their own image, political standing, and career progression than developing their teams. Accountability is often pushed downward, while management failures are rarely acknowledged. Performance evaluations feel highly subjective and inconsistent. Your achievements can be dismissed or reinterpreted depending on whether you are viewed favourably by management. The same behaviour may be praised in one employee and criticised in another. Objective results often matter less than personal relationships and office politics. There is a strong culture of micromanagement, fear, and intimidation. Employees are frequently reminded about PIPs, restructures, or layoffs, creating an environment where people feel pressured to comply rather than contribute openly. Constructive feedback is rare; instead, criticism is often used as a management tool. Managers may present themselves as caring and supportive, but conversations can sometimes feel more focused on gathering personal information than genuinely helping employees. Trust is difficult to build when employees feel their openness may later be used against them. Cliques and inner circles are common. If you are not part of the preferred group, it is easy to feel excluded, undervalued, or unfairly targeted. Challenging decisions or offering alternative viewpoints is often discouraged, while those who simply agree with management appear to be rewarded. The most frustrating aspect is the constant expectation to self-reflect and “improve” while legitimate concerns about leadership behaviour are ignored. Employees are often made to feel that every problem is their fault, regardless of the broader management issues contributing to the situation. Working hard is not enough. In many cases, managing relationships with senior stakeholders appears more important than delivering high-quality work. If you value transparency, fairness, and merit-based recognition, this may not be the right environment for you. I would strongly advise prospective employees to speak with current and former staff before joining and to carefully evaluate whether this culture aligns with their expectations and wellbeing.

Pros

Competitive salary. Some good people at the individual contributor level. The product owner I worked with was organised and driven.

Cons

Onboarding was chaotic: I arrived on day one to no colleagues, no ID badge, and no working laptop. Getting equipment provisioned took forty six days. My contract stipulated office attendance "as required," yet I was pushed to meet a forty percent threshold despite having no colleagues or manager on site. The CI pipeline was slow, tests were flaky, and cross-team communication was poor. Knowledge transfer from departing contractors was minimal and unstructured. Leadership didn't proactively support new starters.
