Great Place to Work with Strong Values

Pros

I worked for Lockheed Martin for over 10 years. It was a great experience - learned a lot from some of the most talented people in the business. They had a very strong ethics program which set them apart from competitors and strong leadership. Really good work/life balance and salaries were generous.

Cons

Since it is such a large company, their overhead budgets (anything not charged directly to a contract) are fairly limited, but I think it keeps costs down so that new opportunities can be won. The facility I where I worked had a training center that allowed the workforce to take classes on their own time, so that was a benefit.

Pros

Paid training, rotational assignments and growth opportunities, overall great place to start your career

Cons

One must rely on personal network to move ahead. Many end up leaving because it's difficult or sometimes impossible to get promoted.

Very poor experience

Pros

The work is very interesting and no two days are ever the same. Management has great ideas around Ethics, personal responsibility and the like. Senior management is quite good, however middle management is terrible.

Cons

- There are not enough people to do the work. - Despite LM's great Ethics training, the "on the ground" culture is homophobic, sexist and just generally obnoxious. If you are not white, be prepared to be commented on behind your back. - Systems and processes are not up to the job and where they are, not followed. - Hiring practices are not transparent. - Training is non-existent. You are expected to know everything upon arrival. - The culture is extremely long-hours - if you want to spend weekends with your family, LM is not the place for you. People who take time off for childrens' assemblies and the like are frowned upon. Flexible working is not available. - Pay is not good for the volume and level of work expected of individuals. - Benefits package is poor, especially considering the hours required and the hours expected. - People are expected to switch jobs at short notice and with no change to T&Cs.
