Pros

20% discount Colleagues are nice

Cons

They say they promote people from within but they don't. Their hiring teams are awful take over 4 MONTHS to decide. Their communication is lacking and the job role will say ' under consideration ' until the very end when they've hired someone even though they know you don't have it months before. They call the self check out area ' the pen', and ask you to stay in it like you're a pig . You never see a manager , the shifts are long and the work life balance is disgusting. They also tell you to book your holiday otherwise they'll pick random dates for you and if too many people book you get denied.

Hi there, thanks for sharing your concerns. As a business we want to make sure that all of our Colleagues feel supported and enjoy being a part of the Marks and Spencer family, so we're really sorry to hear you’re unhappy. We’d recommend that you discuss your concerns with your Line Manager, or if you feel you cannot approach your Line Manager, then a more senior person or someone who you feel most at ease with, for example your BIG rep or your HR Business Partner to find a solution together. Pros

colleagues were great people and generally supportive

Cons

constantly overworked to the point it was laughable, the dishwasher broke several times in the 6 months I worked there and the response was to use paper plates and hand wash. filthy behind the scenes generally due to limited staff and inability to keep up. my temporary contract which had been renewed for 3 months without question was then ended and I was let go with 2 weeks' notice and then threatened with legal action 3 months after my contract ended. When I checked to see what overpayment they were talking about they had the incorrect end date for my contract.
