Politics and Crony Management

Pros

Beautiful building and most of the people are terrific. The "potential" is wonderful, but falls short.

Cons

People are promoted into positions for which they are not suited because of crony management. The senior level of management is comprised of people who've been with MKI for decades, so they are so mired in old-school conquer and control management versus actual leadership that inspires and rewards based on genuine merit and solid performance. The "managers" are so busy being "bosses" that they forget or have no clue about how to be leaders. Great people have left because they are just stuck and see no future because of the wall of old-timers that are hiring their pals and keeping good and highly qualified personnel from advancing. It is so very sad. Mary Kay Ash is spinning in her grave.

Pros

Has a wonderful history. Pretty building and a sales force that sparkles. Nice pay. Pretty good benefits and there are smart minds trying to make a difference.

Cons

Has lost the true understanding and foundation of the culture. It's just words now. No one knows what's going on. Direction is almost non existent. There is little to no communication or unity from the executive level. There are some good VPs and Directors, but also far too many weak VPs and Directors. It's like the leadership of the company doesn't care anymore. The C-suite members don't seem to like each other and have become ineffective. And the product offering needs work. The whole company needs a makeover. So sad. Where this company used to be one to study and learn from, it's now just become another ok company.

Pros

Great profit share program; good leadership; very nice culture (on paper); a lot of good people.

Cons

Very stodgy, old-school company full of divas. In your interview they will talk about making improvements and endorsing change, but the company is really a bunch of tenured ladies that want nothing to do with change or working hard. As a new hire, despite all your superior skills and experience, you will be at the bottom due to your lack of seniority - that's all that matters here. Nobody wants to "do" - they all just want to manage (or fly around the world on the company dime). Place is filled w/a bunch of women who create an environment of cattiness and pettiness. Company makes good $$ so most of the employees think they are wildly successful. Someone has to die for you to get promoted. Used to be one of the top 10 places to work in DFW - there's a reason its not anymore.
