Pros

The work schedule is flexible.

Cons

The start up costs are extremely high. The managers always push, push, push sales consultants to buy more products. Yet, they do not guide you or support you when you are selling the products. You are mostly told what you can't do as opposed to what you can do. Also, I tested many of the products on myself and I would not feel comfortable selling products that I would not use on myself.

Pros

Working for Mary Kay gives you the opportunity to buy products at cost. Which is a wonderful benefit.

Cons

The high level of inventory one is pushed to have on hand is financially draining. The pressure put on consultants to meet a certain status within the company is frustrating. The lack of understanding from leadership when there are family reasons you cannot work the business as much is discouraging. Leading is one thing - pushing is another. Becoming a Mary Kay Consultant will be a financial disaster if you do exactly what the leadership tells you to.

Pros

The people who are left are amazing but their time is coming... Everyone knows it but they are doing their best with what they have left.

Cons

The layoffs are frequent, without warning, and without communication. They continue to lay off tremendously bright and wonderful people who have given their whole career to MK only to be left with extremely subpar severance packages. The benefits continue to worsen. They used to be Best in Class. Now they are average at best. Even with the layoffs, there's not much career advancement possible.
