Survived the layoffs, but bleak times ahead

Pros

- Competitive pay package - Leading-edge technology - Genuinely great peers - Zuckerberg will do literally anything to push the stock price up

Cons

I cannot tolerate the blatant transphobia coming from Meta's leadership. Everything from the public policy change to internal content moderation and censorship shows that leadership wants to scapegoat a minority group and pretend that nothing happened. This is a hard company to work for if you have strong values, and your values don't align with whoever holds office within the US. If that's not enough: - Zuckerberg will do literally anything to push the stock price up, even at the expense of the stated values of the company and its employees. - Benefit cuts are ongoing with no sign of slowing during the company's most profitable quarter ever. Mark needs another island! - Leadership does not want your feedback. Legitimate concerns might get you a "If you don't like it, leave." directly from C-levels. - Performance cycles value short-term impact over long-term strategy. - Aggressive layoffs, employees with years of exceptional performance are being fired for a shaky half, many unaware it was coming. - Nearly half the stock value is banking on "AI" LLM models which have an uncertain future.

Pros

Your experience at Meta will vary significantly based on the team that you are matched to. I joined several teams while at Meta and every experience varied based on the maturity of the team, the manager, the tone which the leader set in the organization, and I must say that I was lucky once but not in the rest of my experience there. Overall, you will get to work with some of the most talented people who care for their work. Again, it all depends on the team where you land.

Cons

The org changed from 2019 when I joined, through the years of COVID and drastically more so after layoffs. Currently, the company is operating with high standards, raising the bar and not giving any warning for those performing in the bottom 15%. I was fortunate to boomerang after layoffs but the second time around it was an unfair situation. Some boomerangs were brought back on a short-term-employment basis and were held against the same performance as the legacy employees. Suddenly employees started disappearing without warning. It's becoming a cutthroat, back-stabbing environment, and that's a choice employees would have to decide if it's suitable or not, if it's worth the money and health or not. Internal mobility is limiting and if you land in the wrong team, without tenure, you may be screwed!
