Pros

Good benefits, decent pay, stock Free lunch twice a week, well stocked kitchen Great location

Cons

Top technical talent have jumped the ship Hiring engr and product executives from traditional ERP companies was a big mistake. They have stalled product innovation Technology is difficult to learn quickly. No mentorship. Total chaos, failing product and recurrent complaints from customers Most of the time spent fixing bugs Sales driven organization. Lot of money spent on selling and marketing than on building product Lack of genuine attention to gender and racial diversity in leadership roles. Promotion based on nepotism and not actual results

I’m sorry to hear your feedback about the team and our culture. This is not the norm for us, in fact, mentoring is critical for us, and we have several programs in place to ensure that this is happening. We have specific growth and training plans for each person on our team, and each manager works with individuals on what areas they want to grow in and how they want to achieve that growth. Our technology is difficult to learn quickly, so it’s true that there’s a lot to learn depending on what part of the platform you’re working on, but we’d never leave someone to fend for themselves. These mentoring programs are part of the reason that much of our top talent has actually remained with us over the past few years, and we’re experiencing consistent high growth, even expanding to a development center in Mountain View where we’ve hired machine learning experts to continue spurring innovation. As we ship multiple major features every quarter while simultaneously growing our customer and usage base, we have to look not only at feature function but also focus on quality and scalability, driving interesting challenges in feature development, as well as quality and scale in a large distributed system. There’s a lot going on here, it’s true, but never at the detriment of our people or our customers.

Little Opportunity for Growth

Pros

MuleSoft allowed for ownership of large, highly-visible projects. It's a fast-paced environment with rapid growth, and the headquarters is conveniently located in downtown San Francisco.

Cons

Becoming an expert in an area is more likely to pigeon-hole you from growing beyond that role. Performance reviews are not consistent, nor are they based on your role's actual responsibilities and deliverables. I experienced the addition of two male team members, both with less education and experience than myself, starting at and above what I was making at the time they joined.

It's great to hear that you had the chance to own some big projects. Last year was our first year with companywide performance reviews, and we are making a lot of changes, so I agree that they are not at all consistent. Many companies are switching between heavy, light and no performance review processes, so there does not seem to be a right answer, but we'll keep dialing it in for our culture to make it as helpful as possible. On the compensation question, it would be good to dig into your specific situation to insure there weren't disparities so please contact me directly. We ran an analysis several months ago to be sure that we were paying consistently across genders and the data showed that we were, but of course your team may have been otherwise and we'd like to know about that specific situation.

Once in a career opportunity

Pros

The market is pushing MuleSoft to succeed. Investments by key companies like SFDC, ServiceNow, SAP, Cisco are all great indicators. MuleSoft also provides a very valuable solution that can withstand market fluctuation or busts. Management team has run high growth companies before.

Cons

Lot of internal meetings about meetings repeating the same content. Typical rigor for a company at this stage, but with all the talent within management you would think they could come up with a more streamlined process. Also, lots of business 101 training "enablement" meetings that are a big waste of time/money. These cons are small considering the huge opportunity at MuleSoft.
