Pros

More money than I've ever earned anywhere else. Being able to work from home is great!

Cons

Zero technical involvement with anything. I could do this job just as easily as if I was still in high school. This job is all about boring paperwork that is just going to change and need to be redone in a few months. Work has no meaning or relevance. People are not interested in speeding up their tedious, repetitive tasks. This job is all about trying to make yourself look like you have a lot of responsibility and influence rather than actually getting anything done. There is no incentive for management to remove problem employees. The more heads they have, the more they can bill the government. There is like <10 people on my program that do actual engineering. The other 100 people just poke those people and ask them why they're not done yet and when they think they'll be done, and this is re-hashed EVERY week.

Not What It Seems

Pros

Job Security Great programs to work on Receive a clearance depending on the type of work Always hiring

Cons

I'm only speaking for one particular division within NG Front line managers have minimal power within the organization. All budget / program direction inquiries goes through the Directors, despite having 3 managers between them and non-management employees. Working in a completely different role than what you were hired for. Constant attrition with no plan to fix it. Benefits are mediocre compared to competitors. They only provide $10k/year for school and require your manager to approve every course. Whereas, competitors pay for the whole school with no management involvement unless it's a PhD. The PTO accrual rate is abysmal and you don't have a separate bank for sick leave thus one day making you choose to be sick or take a vacation.
