“Trust through transparency” is a lie

Pros

-OB has a great product. -A lot of the people at OB are very smart and are great to work with.

Cons

-Management and C-Level executives want employees to drink the kool aid and feel like it is a family when it is not. -If you are not friends with the CEO outside of work, you are not part of the "cool kids". -The claim that a pillar is “trust through transparency” when they hide a ton from employees. -The CEO use to host "Ask Me Anything" sessions, but ultimately would filter out or ignore questions he didn't like. I know of people who have gotten in trouble for asking simple questions like "What states can we hire in?" or "Will OwnBackup be releasing a statement given the current #BLM events?" (which they never did). -They spend money like it is going out of fashion (millions dropped on a MKO in Vegas) and then claim they need to raise the ARR by Full Time Employee figure to get to where they want to be. -Then there were 2 town halls in a row the question about layoffs came up and was quickly shot down, stating there was absolutely no reason for them considering how well OB was doing. A couple of weeks later they let go of 200+ employees globally, no reasons given to the employees, which included both newbies and proven vets. Some of those vets were the #1 producers in their role, making employees who were not cut question if they were safe considering who was let go. The lack of transparency caused a plunge in morale and numerous employees (including myself) are currently looking to leave. Makes you wonder if all the trips and expenses were worth getting rid of a quarter of the company. People who are friends with the CEO ultimately kept their jobs, regardless of skill and/or performance. -If you do not like to drink alcohol, look for another company. You will be considered an outsider if you don’t drink. -They boast about all these office perks to try to get people back into the office, but many have gone downhill severely like the free lunch for example. Currently the lunch offered is around the same level of some high school lunches at best. -Speaking of getting people back in the office, even though sales records were broken while people worked remotely during covid, the C-Suite feels that the company is "better together" while in the office. However, majority of the c-suite are hypocrites and don't even come into the office routinely.

Our CEO, along with our entire Executive Leadership team make themselves available to speak with everyone that expresses an interest in doing so. Each month, our CEO hosts an ask me anything session with every new hire that gets onboarded at OwnBackup. In addition, we also host monthly town hall meetings with an open slot for questions, which our entire executive team answers via a live panel. Anyone who asks a question that was not covered during the live panel is asked to reach out to the executive team directly as we sometimes run short on time. Our Mid Year Kick off was planned over a year in advance, during a time much different to the current market situation. The market has changed rapidly since then. Our leadership team and board of directors make decisions with the information they have at the time. Additionally, the organizational realignment impacted approximately 170 employees. Our offices have many perks and amenities that employees are welcome to utilize. Our New Jersey HQ is equipped with several coffee options, snacks, lunch, and taps, all of which are complementary to employees. As far as our return to the office goes, employees are asked to come in on a cadence that best suits their role. For example, some roles, like workplace experience, are designed to be in-office. Some roles are more suited to remote work. If you have any other thoughts or questions, please reach out to your HRBP. Thank you.

Pros

My favorite part? They laid me off - yes I mean that. I hated working here more than I ever imagined possible. Every night I would dread going to work here, and they did me a favor.

Cons

If you're reading this, you're likely looking to work here. Knowing the recruiters & middle management at OB, they will tell you the vast number of negative reviews are due to the November layoffs and are not indicative of the company as a whole. This is a lie. When I had looked to join OB, I brushed off a few Glassdoor reviews addressing their handling of Covid as well as their management & culture. If I could go back and trust my gut that this company had major reflags, I 100% would. If you're reading these reviews - yes, people are overwhelmingly mad about layoffs. However I implore you look at what else the reviews say, you will notice themes in what they address. In the future, OB will say they have changed for the better and addressed issues in the past. It will likely not be true.

Pros

Free lunch even though it’s nowhere used to the quality it used to be.

Cons

- horrible leadership, my RVP provided zero value to our segment, we would actually laugh at how little he does - no more cool events. We used to do really fun outings for Big Kahuna, now they send you a jacket and say congrats, it’s truly pathetic - they spent all this money on a vegas trip and US office and then laid off 20% of the company. Talk about poor mismanagement of funds! - service now and Microsoft are trash, they don’t work and no one wants to sell it - your talent team tells every new potential hire “ here’s the go karts in the office, you’ll always see people riding them” this is a flat out lie, if you ride the go karts during work hours you’ll be fired on the spot - making everyone return to the office and then firing everyone 2 months later was a really bold, stupid, move

Thank you for sharing your feedback. The decision to realign the organization was extremely challenging. We’ve worked extensively with our executive team and board of directors to refine our plans to best succeed in today’s market. In addition, large internal events and employee offsites are an investment in our employees and are typically planned over a year in advance. Our offices have many perks and amenities that employees are welcome to utilize. Our New Jersey HQ is equipped with several coffee options, snacks, lunch, and a fitness center all of which are complementary to employees. If you have any other thoughts or questions, please reach out to your HRBP. Thank you.
