PwC made me want to commit suicide and they don’t care
Pros
If you’re young and starting out your career probably a good place for you. They can mould you to be who the structure needs you to be and equip you with good skills.
Cons
As you get more senior you’ll feel how empty the work is. I always got the sense that 80% of the work is being done by 20% of the people. Senior people are not as busy as they claim to be. They’re mostly politic-ing and lobbying across the business for their next big promotion. They say they care about people’s mental health, ethnic diversity, they don’t. They drive strong campaigns on these topics because if they don’t they will look bad. There’s nothing of substance there. They mostly care about how they look but when it comes down to it they don’t care. I’ve heard several people of colour mention they moved up the ladder through brute force as opposed to an environment that encouraged growth through support and guidance. I’m referring to partner level even. You may think I'm merely a disgruntled ex-employee and that might be true. I stand by two things, 1. if you’re starting out your career, amazing place to start, but don’t get comfortable cos there’s a set of leaders who won’t budge especially if you don’t strike their egos. 2. You can largely coast but don’t expect growth. I have developed a severe mental health condition due the way they handled a serious issue. I will be on medication for the rest of my life as per doctors. They’ve been made aware of my issue and they don’t care. I also understand that much of there ability to stay afloat in the consulting business at least is based on the strength of the audit and tax business. They have significant loans with which they pay bonuses so employees don’t get scared that their financial position is not as great as they purport.
