Pros

Diverse set of experiences, opportunity to interact with very senior professionals at the client early on in my career (Directors, VPs, C-Suite). High performing culture keeps you on your toes. Tons of great benefits.

Cons

Depending on the specific group you are in can be extremely toxic. Tours of Duty (temporary assignments) are sold as a differentiator early on but my experience was completely different. Shortly after returning from a ToD I was benched for an extended period of time (didn't turn down any projects) and was eventually terminated. Despite high performance reviews client utilization (even under unique circumstances) can be grounds for dismissal.

Pros

Relatively flexible - can work from home 2 days a week. They make good effort in organizing social events as a firm. Can be good on your resume

Cons

politics. Bullying. Toxic people get promoted. Low to nothing salary increase if you don’t get promoted. Promotion is based on your relationship with the senior group (I.e. show them you will be there for your whole life….). Most partners are lifers. Microaggression - Partner can make problematic comments as a joke. There are things quite unethical.

Pros

Good opportunity to get exposed to all the breadth of work across consulting within different industries. You meet some good people and there are good opportunities to develop your skills

Cons

It's a very cliquey corporate environment. Time in seat is valued more than merit and the promise of promotion is just that. It seems that ingratiating the partners and perhaps playing golf with them might just be the ticket to propel your career.
