They'll promise the moon but won't deliver

Pros

• people are nice • bi-annual salary reviews • can be a cushy job as most people only put in the bare minimum

Cons

They don't care for their people as much as they say they do. Last year they cut 20% of their workforce – their second round of mass layoffs that year. During the Townhall that followed they announced a mandatory RTO 3 days a week where before it wasn't required. (I have since seen job posting that mention "at least 3 days in office" which means they will be back to 5 days sooner or later.) At my last review I mentioned how more than 1/2 of the things mentioned in the job description had not materialized, and was told I need to be a team player and do what's asked of me regardless. It was clear earlier this year that they are no longer the innovative financial institution they were 10+ years ago; all of their recent offers/promotions are reactionary (read: waiting to see what Wealthsimple does they trying to match it). They are no longer going after high-value investors and are going after low-hanging clients who doesn't know any better. If you're not part of the legacy you will be ignored.

Avoid Questrade. It's a nightmare.

Pros

This company is a mess. Leadership is inconsistent and unpredictable. Lots of people get fired all the time. No stability at all. No plans. No future.

Cons

Too many to mention on Glassdoor. It's a big mistake to go and work there.

Pros

Questrade was a great group, and my most enjoyable role so far. The changes to how we worked were definitely a huge step in the right direction, and as a result, we were very empowered with some great tools and resources to support our day-to-day activities. A big part of this was their forward-thinking approach to Ai that led to some definite skill-building across peers and entire teams. I have former teammates who have moved on to larger financial institutions, and this is the one thing they miss - access to Ai that empowers them.

Cons

Strategic decisions have had a huge impact on the culture and the business in the last 12+ months. What was once a great workplace has been replaced by the typical "no one is safe" environment. Loyalty is out the window, with a definite shift towards people as disposable commodities. If you want a prime example of how a consulting agency (aka Deloitte) implements a theoretical strategy in the real world, keep an eye on Questrade.
