Pros

The culture is laid back and your work hours are flexible. There are interesting projects to work on and skilled senior engineers to learn from.

Cons

Hard work is not appreciated. Even if you are visible to the upper management of your program, you may not be visible to the people who control your raise. You could do nothing for a year and no one would notice. Expectations for daily work are low while at the same time expectations for advancement are unknown.

Raytheon is good place to start a career.

Pros

Raytheon has an excellent work life balance through promotion of flex time and promotion of various employee networking groups. Many people at the company have been there for a significant amount of time (decades) and understand their job well so there are many mentors. There is good financial support for going back to school for a masters degree and most younger people have a masters degree or are taking classes in pursuit of a degree. Various health promotions are ongoing including onsite fitness centers that are cheap with knowledgeable instructors. The company is large enough to be able to move around to different locations or job functions while staying at the same company.

Cons

Much of the technology is older so staying current with technology is a challenge and very little training is available. It is difficult to get support for classes or training unless they are leading to a masters degree. Sometimes it seems that diversity demographics is more important that work ethic or technical abilities which can be demoralizing to those who like to work hard. Sometimes process takes priority over technical achievements. The matrix organization and diversity demographic goals can make it difficult or impossible to let a technically challenged employee go from the company. The cafeteria is generally over priced with poor quality food.
