Cons
You can get stuck in a roll, even though you are better suited for something else. You won't get much of a chance to show what you can do unless you do it on your off hours. Managers direct your career path, or you can get out. Consider this a temporary job. There are many inept managers who get to stick around, but the people actually doing the programming and testing are looked at as expendable. every time the stock market goes down or they buy a competitor out and need to cut staff. keep your resume up to date, use some of your time to build your portfolio for your next job, because this one won't last. and build up your network.
