Pros

Strong culture, very open-minded, great diversity, respectful, good benefits, no pressure, money is not a problem.

Cons

This review is for the SIG group, which basically corresponds to Coverity enriched with other acquisitions in the security field. Good place if you want to rest, terrible if you want to learn or deliver anything. Very academic and outdated approaches. Coverity was oriented towards research and was specialized in C/C++, and several years later, they have not succeeded to do anything else, whereas they have invested on many other products and technologies. Some teams have been working for several years on projects which were never published. Some of these projects would have been delivered in 5 less times by skilled teams in modern companies. Other would just have been trashed right away with a better understanding of the market. R&D is not the only guilty. There is just no product management. Coverity was used to build products for developers, and they have never considered Product Management as a critical area. Talking UI/UX was shameful until recently. What would product managers do anyway? Everything is owned at the VP level, and no manager dares to say how their directions are not relevant. Everyone pretends and waits for the next decisions, which will invalidate the previous ones. Synopsys/SIG builds an offer for the stock market, not for customers. Products are sold because they allow customers to check requirements in their process. They are not really used. They also acquire lots of products, but they barely know what they are doing beyond the marketing sheet. And they break them after a few months, applying their 1990s recipes.

Pros

Great location in San Francisco (near ballpark/train station) Fairly decent benefits Stock price has gone up

Cons

SIG Leadership is uninspiring to say the least. And ineffective. Not the people managers that we need around here to give us all the big boost that we so desperately need. We took an employee survey months ago and nothing has changed. Not that we really believed it would with the current management. Still no communication, no culture or values to speak of, nothing. But we thought maybe this might be a big wake up call to HQ, along with other candid feedback they most certainly have received. SIG needs a complete management overhaul across most departments. There are "managers" here who have NO business being managers. And who somehow get away with being very bad managers due to years of "protection" or because they hide out under the radar pretending everything is fine. It's not. And because this leadership only cares about certain aspects of the organization and chooses to overlook and ignore all the other obvious issues we've got. There is a death grip on change here at SIG. But really what's worse and the most troubling is that the HR is sitting on its hands doing nothing. We had high hopes that new HR would come in and be able to identify the dead weight and poor structures in this org. And help right all the wrongs that a first year business student could identify from a mile away. Looks like that hope has been dashed as it's been months and months and nothing other than good people secretly forced out or have just quit out of utter frustration. And this of course has had a palpable negative impact on the already very bad morale here at SIG. It's toxic and depressing. But most are staying as they vest, doing the bare minimum, including myself. But our spirits die a little bit each day. We also had hope with the new CSS, but there are been nothing done whatsoever. That team could not be more unfulfilled and claim nothing has been done for them. And R&D also has countless issues that remain overlooked and ignored somehow. Marketing is struggling and has had so much attrition, yet these ongoing problems gets pushed under the rug as well. There are no consequences for poor management here. The common theme is do nothing and act like problems aren't really there. It works quite well for management!

We are glad that you love the office location, and Synopsys’ growth and success! We do too! On behalf of SIG, we appreciate your feedback and we are looking forward to engaging with our employees more openly and consistently. We recognize areas of growth and opportunity and have plans for changes in the very near future. We’ll continue to address our employee feedback and share business updates. We will discuss several of these areas at the next all hands meeting and we hope you’ll attend! We’d also encourage you to reach out to HR so that we can chat about your observations.
