Pros

If you enjoy sharing your knowledge or testing your creativity, Home Depot will supply and endless stream of your kind of experiences. YOUR experience and enthusiasm is what made Home Depot famous and it is still alive with many of the associates. The pressure is on when the traffic peaks, but it rarely lasts for more than an hour or so in any given area. That being said, wear good shoes and you'll get your 10,000 daily steps in to keep you fit.

Cons

At times the new retail methodology of part time and fewer people in the aisles is exasperating, but if you can appreciate being the person making people happy, you will enjoy working in the big box. People looking to advance are too often willing to sacrifice those under them with impossible tasking while they stroll through their daily list of "things to do ".

So bad I quit!!!

Pros

They train you for almost everything you will encounter, they offer benefits to full time employees (working 40+ hours a week EVERY WEEK), the overall benefits and associate discounts (not in the store) are nice, but there's always the alumni program to continue getting associate discounts.

Cons

Everything!!! Maybe it was just my location, but they wouldn't let me relocate to a different store so I'm not too sure. They offer a befefits package to full time employees, but everyone I met in the store (I always make it a point to learn who all of my coworkers are and what they do) worked less than 40 hours a week every week so no one qualified except the managers. Management sucked, they tell you if you have a problem to go through the chain of command meaning your immediate supervisor, then the department head, then your assistant store manager, then the store manager, and finally corporate. I had to call corporate for about 5 different things in the 5 months I had worked there. When you request days off, don't expect to get them, because even if they are approved they will still schedule you anyway and if you call and tell them about it, it's a call off. If you don't come (which is what you will typically do if you get an approval for a request to take the day off) you're a no call no show, and you're penalized for it. I got sick and was hospitalized for 2 days so I called in and told the manager what was happening on the first day. Now my doctor told me to stay on bed-rest the next 3 days, and then I could return to work. The manager told me to just bring in a doctor's note explaining everything and excusing me from work. So I come back after 5 days note in hand and I am turned away and told I cant return to work without a leave of absence packet (about 20 pages of paperwork) filled out by myself and my doctor. Mind you a leave of absence is only required if you will miss a minimum of 10 days of work, i missed 5. My doctor could not fill out the packet because she did not place me on a leave of absence and she would be penalized by her superiors if they found out, so i understood. The Home Depot Store 1010 would not let me return and all the while kept putting me down as a no call no show, and threatened to fire me for job abandonment, so I told them I quit and hung up. Needless to say I don't even shop at The Home Depot anymore. I've been happier since I left.
