Pros

If you manage to survive longer than a month, you can consider yourself to be stress resistant and tough. There are no pros for the AP position.

Cons

The entire department is chaos, no one knows what they are supposed to do, 3 out of 4 managers are completely clueless and when put on the spot, they will dump all responsibilities on you. You will not get support from manager, you will not get training, you will learn by making mistakes and being blamed for it. Managers and HR are intrusive, they will monitor your personal life, your breaks, doctor appointments (I had to wait a week before being given the time off and I was asked to provide the reason). Managers will use scare tactics to make you work overtime and weekends (extending your probation period, shouting at you, asking you if you really want this job). Workload is unbearable, you will be doing the work of 2 people, which means that you are bound to forget to do things or running out of time, you will be blamed and asked to provide full details on why and how you could have possibly forgotten something, while all the things you are doing well are completely oblivious to the management. The department is badly organised, management is not aware that computers have been invented, you will print everything and archive it in a box, there is no database, only the boxes in storage. I have spent hours looking for a piece of paper which could have been scanned and stored in a database. Thermofisher is not a green company, you will spend your days printing. I worked for 7 months and I know of 6 people who suffered from burnout, some people came and left within a week. They are 25 people in the team. If you are asked to give suggestion on how to improve the department, do not answer, it is a trick question, you will be reported to HR for having a negative attitude. The company is located in the middle of nowhere, if you don't have a car, it will be difficult to get to work, you can take the bus, emphasis on THE bus, there is only one which runs once an hour, if you miss it, you have to take a taxi which will cost 10 pounds. The bus is always full, be prepared to stand. You can take the job if you are desperate, my advice would be to keep looking for something else, the department will not get better as long as the managers are there.

Pros

Base Salary and bonus are pretty good. Med benefits are standard. 15 Days of PTO which technically includes your sick time, but “working from home” when sick does happen. ESPP exists, but discount is smaller than usual. Really nothing overly special other than that it is a large stable company.

Cons

Hard to progress with the amount of favoritism taking place. Even then, they seem more likely to hire from outside than promote from within. Deadlines are often unrealistic. All of their financial systems and data are a disaster. They acquire or restructure their businesses so frequently that it often makes any financial analysis so confusing as to be nearly worthless. Unless you are a director (with an office), you will have zero personal space. You will be seated in a huge open floor, in blocks of six seats, three per side. You will feel like your elbows are basically touching the people next to you, and you can see the people across from you... and that’s just within your block. It didn’t feel like finance was very appreciated there, even within finance, and there was just a general undercurrent of insincerity surrounding everything, especially performance reviews. If you are happy with you current employer, and your happiness is more valuable to you than whatever pay bump you might get here, then I’d recommend staying put.
