Pros

I will say that the team I worked with was outstanding, and that my direct management was outstanding, given the financial crisis and other outside pressures. I am still close friends with members of that team today.

Cons

Politics at UBS, at least from the IT side of the house, are rampant. From year end evaluations and promotions to vendor selections, decisions took too long and were always under political scrutiny. Also, its takes forever for anything to get done. The place is drowning in process. If you wanted anything to get done, you were better off doing it yourself. That in turn created a considerable amount of frustration.

Pros

UBS had lots of talented and intelligent people. Good work/life balance depending on your department or manager

Cons

Most of the "talented and intelligent" folks have now departed the firm either through lay-offs or voluntarily. There are still few, but not enough to make your work fulfilling. This has made the culture less motivating and it seems to be getting worse.

Pros

The culture is very laid back. It is not an entirely unpleasant place to work. It is not a high pressure environment, work is usually assigned with ample time to complete it.

Cons

You work and never really see the results, things are very bureaucratic and political. The environment makes delivering a good product very hard. It is very rigid in some senses and not structured at all in other ways which are actually more relevant to what is produced software wise.
