Pros

Really top notch people work in the UK business. Good diversity, really clever with impressive backgrounds. Nice building in the City with canteen and gym. When I started in 2013 it was great because turnover was low, and people really built their careers there and stayed a long time. They moved around jobs but this gave it a great feel of longevity as a place to work.

Cons

The Swiss home office micro-manages the UK, and when you add this pressure to UK regulatory scrutiny it can be a maze of rules and regulations. Then the worst is when your Swiss bosses don't understand UK rules and you get in trouble with you boss for following UK law. Far too controlled by Switzerland, which allows for little creativity or enablement in London. Also now beset by reorg after reorg so the turnover is too high to get to know people well or build a career there.

Pros

I have great coworkers, I work for a great team, I have excellent earning potential as my team grows and I get licenses. The work life balance is great as my day is strictly 8-5 and nothing after, and we have lots of vacation and get all the bank/market holidays. I really like my job.

Cons

It can be a bit of an old school environment depending on your branch. My branch is a bit more formal (though not nearly as formal as it could or used to be) and there is a definite delineation between genders, eg women are CSAs and men are Financial Advisors. There's very little overt sexism, but there is definitely some institutionalized sexism going on. The earning potential is great, but there is not a lot of opportunity for upward mobility in this role, although UBS has tons of career opportunities in other areas.
