Pros

Lots of opportunity to move, and if you play the game you can progress. Probably the best place I have worked for training and courses and if you want to take on more work they will heap it on you, but you have to perform, and as long as you fit the profile you will go far.

Cons

Its all about playing the game @ UBS. You make the right noises to the right people you will go far. They take you for granted after a year or two so if you haven't been promoted or looked after in that time I would say move on. This was probably the worst firm I have seen for management self promotion, and people being entirely self motivated for their own gain and to hell with everyone else.

Pros

There were a lot of positive things about this company before 2007, but sadly I don't have anything positive to say about this company today.

Cons

1) The only lever available to the company is "reduce costs". The current staffing level is beyond "cut to the bone"/at the stage of "removing limbs". 2) Vast amounts of talented people (quants, front office, IT, control functions) have either walked out the door or wiggled into getting laid off. Management is disconnected from the reality of the work that is required to keep the company running and constantly dumps more onto staff without concern for people's existing workload. This is not how you make a challenging and stimulating environment. 3) UBS has an uncanny ability to be in the press constantly for one or more scandals/lawsuits. 4) The execution of the stated culture and values is disingenuous. 5) Practically everyone I spoke to when I resigned told me they were also looking for another job.

Pros

Salaries are on the high end of scale compared to remaining industries in Switzerland. As a global player, there are a lot of opportunities to gain international experience and further your career.

Cons

Greed and lack of respect for employees are the predominant factors in the corporate culture. Performance review process and talent management programs are not transparent and hence of little true value.
