Pros

Global company - many opportunities for growth and development. Great benefits. Fast paced environment - challenging projects.

Cons

Internal promotions do not come with salary increases. Culture can vary greatly from department to department. Silos between departments - lack of communication and cooperation at times.

Pros

- Brand name. Looks good on CV. - Generally competent staff. Some have a very positive cando attitude. - Most senior staff (MDs) are very approachable and helpful (though there are a few exceptions!). - Good place to build a career (if one starts early).

Cons

- Rigidly heirarchical and can be very bureaucratic. - Some middle-management staff are way too old fashioned (command & control) with a very insecure/working class attitude. - Generally DI/ED level staff (IT) are too immature and arrogant (I guess that is the case with all IBs) - they let lofty titles obscure their thinking and demotivate other staff members. - Would not recommend it for a mid-career move (get in early or just forget it). - Certain IB level strategic objectives are not very clear or transparent (especially on the IT side), shows management suffers from insecurity.

Pros

It's a job and there are benefits such as salary, healthcare, etc. If you are not interested in advancement and you are content to be an adminstrative assistant, this job is for you.

Cons

The less you know about the business, the more you get promoted. Management is intimidated by intelligence, and hires 30 yr olds to manage brokers who have been in the business 30 yrs, making it difficult for seasoned professionals to have any respect for them. It feels like a high school clique with those in the "in crowd" getting ahead, while others flounder. They could use to get rid of the extra layers of "fat" and invest in technology. The legal and compliance depts run the firm.
