      What it takes to be part of the market leader

      Pros

      Fast-paced. Part of team that is market leader in Virtualization. Many opportunities to rotate into other positions. Nice Perks. Great gym. Open Snack Bar. Great cafe. Campus is expanding, too.

      Cons

      Cutthroat. Folks are competitive and want to get ahead. More competitive than cooperative. You need to stay on top of your game to survive and must have thick skin. Not necessarily a 'con', but must adjust quickly if you are joining from a different environment.

      Great technology but ...

      Pros

      VMware has great technology and they have very strong and competent engineers.

      Cons

      Lack of documentation - you have to find the right person with the information in their head to understand product/technology internals. They also have a very siloed set of engineering teams (which they are trying to fix). There is a general lack of integration across their product lines (also trying to fix) and the organization can be very political. They also have way to many VP's who are really only operating at the level of project manager.

      None really. Campus looks good is perhaps the only PRO

      Cons

      Too many managers especially in CPD Palo Alto. Some managers have 2 or 3 employees. Consider CPD view team that has had historically few employees per manager. Same is also true for vCloud team. Some managers have absolutely no technical skill.
