Pros
Great Company lost of perks. If you are full time you get every other weekend off and only work 1 sunday a month. You do have the option to opt out of sundays too. You get staff discount after 3 months, you get 25% off johnlewis and now its 20% off waitrose. You also get a canteen where you have breakfasts and big lunches cooked for you and its only £1.35 which is fantastic because the portions are massive. There is also a vending machine upstairs where you can get their nice microwave meals and sandwiches from the shopfloor for a fraction of the price. And there is always freebies up there too.
Cons
There is no clock in and out machines so you better make sure you get paid for overtime by manually checking all your hours you do. which if you forget to check on time you will not get paid. Pay is scored on how well you are doing. for example there is Outstanding (which is the highest grade) Very good Good poor and under performing i believe. So based on how hard you have worked over the year your manager will grade you and this will determine the percentage of a pay rise you will get. However i got graded 2 years in a row outstanding and the first year my pay went from £9.79 to £10.59 which i was very happy about. But my second year, after having a couple of disputes with fellow colleges (outside of work) (this did not affect how hard i worked) my pay went from £10.59 - £10.91. I also found out a friend of mine in my store was already getting paid more than me and she got graded lower than me and when it came to the pay rise she got even more than me bringing her pay from £11.05 - £11.50 moral of the story in Waitrose if your managers like you you will do well if they don't then you will get managed out. Such a shame that there is so much politics in retail. Also they need to start sending colleges on more training courses and fun days out.
