Pros

The benefits and on site canteen. Ability to freely work from home.

Cons

The long term "Partners" don't have a can do or make it right attitude but are more procedure driven and very much set in their ways. Little or no flexibility from long term staff. Managers are too week and very afraid of consequences, especially when dealing with difficult staff and situations. No career progression prospects unless you suck up to the management. Very out of date performance review system. Retail price wars will claim John Lewis Partnership soon if they don't change their attitude soon.

Pros

- Nice community feel, all the staff are generally very nice people - Flexible work hours - Lots of holiday - Annual bonus - Partner discount - Lots of opportunities for training

Cons

- Often expected to work late nights and weekends - Expected to do overtime on top of your contracted hours, but on management terms (overtime often not available when you ask for it due to a cut in budget) - Expected to cross-train on different departments on a regular basis even if this is not realistic or supported - Management in some stores can feel a little cliquey and detached from the rest of the partners - Much tighter budget in recent month is quite noticeable, with jobs often getting missed / not done to as high a standard - Development opportunities are overexaggerated - often high-performing partners are promised development and opportunities for management training so as to lure them in and stop them from leaving but this never materialises - Bonus decreasing in recent years - feels more like a way to make partners stay with the company until the end of the tax year rather than a reward at this point - Lots of wastage within the company is very frustrating - often lots of food thrown away, ticket paper used meaninglessly, some partners pull far more weight than others
