Pros

The name is very strong and respected. Easy to promote your business through using the branding. Access to multiple marketing campaigns although it takes forever to get corporate approval.

Cons

Pay. While they are competitive with other banks, the 35 bps per file means you have to close $1mm plus each month in order to make a living. Much less than the broker down the road who can make 150 bps per file easily. Underwriting is incredibly slow! At one point they REQUIRED 60 day locks while the rest of the open market was closing in 4 weeks. Now I hear they are at 30-45 day minimum and the rest of the market is at about 3 weeks. Local management seems to have been tenured and isn't looked at when production in the branches seems to be dropping.

Pros

Plenty of room for advancement and is known for their training. If you want to leave and go to another bank, having Wells Fargo on your resume looks very good. Benefits are pretty good. If you can deal with the first step of being a teller, lots of room for growth. They mostly promote from within.

Cons

The selling environment is almost predatory on customers. I have seen several people come in with multiple checking accounts and savings accounts where they were being charged monthly fees. Many times, they were unaware of the account(s) because they were duped into signing up for it. Many non-English speaking customers fell prey to this. Also, the selling environment is very intense especially for tellers. They put a lot of pressure on you to hit and exceed quarterly goals. The pay is horrible and you tend to get crapped on from all directions, i.e. management, customers.

Pros

Great benefits, opportunities to work throughout the entire country, and many opportunities for furthering education and work towards professional certifications.

Cons

The massive size of the company can also be a detrimental, as new ideas and outside-the-box thinking can be steamrolled by this monolith. Technology in many aspects is lagging behind competitors.
