Pros

You do not have to be very competent to make a career. Moreover, non-performance often leads to a promotion. All you need is to be a good politician. Is this a "pros"? For many people being hired or still kept, unfortunately it is.

Cons

If you are competent and keen, you will get a disproportional amount of work and responsibilities, that a human being - even the most capable, ambitious and motivated - cannot safely handle for a long time. When you want to slow down, you are low performing then. Burn out, hospital, drop from orbit, divorce, robotization are your destinations. A bunch of dependants will gravitate around you with demands for constant operational support (read: do their work). Another layer of colleagues mostly talking about work and gossips around the coffee machine. The latter group has better survival chances! Hard to get anything committed, organized and done without nerves, polemics, politics, meetings. Most effort and personal energy dissipates in anything but not core engineering. The real engineering problems - this is side activity! "Don't bother with details." Excellent awareness about the non-responsibilities.

Pros

exceptional colleagues that try to do their best in an environment that gets worse every day

Cons

I have never experienced a company before where a change of management ends up in completely destroying everything that has been good about a company before. Employees are just cost factors and many colleagues are fired for personal and most dubious reasons. No matter if they are sick or have even relocated from another company to come work for ams. It doesn´t count that you have been a loyal employee for many years. It´s all about the money now. The company grows by acquisition only and completely lacks sustainability in every way. The working climate is extremely bad and full of politics and gossip. A lot of people want to leave. It´s really sad to watch the ongoing downfall of ams.

Pros

1, As company has no strong structure/processes, people can be creative and this gives flexibility 2, you can meet some nice people 3, there are some nice social events in HQ

Cons

1, no clear role responsibilities, many employees have the “not my responsibility attitude”, or they even ignore. 2, Austria has normally good job security, that’s not true for ams. People are afraid, meanwhile they are expected to give up their personal lives on the company. People are frustrated. 3, no good training, development opportunities for employees, especially not for young talented people. ams hires senior people from competition, who are less loyal, and will leave for a better opportunity 4, In HQ they only hire international people, when they couldn’t find an Austrian, and they don’t even try to hide it 5, men’s world. You barely see women in roles with higher responsibilities in HQ. 6, weak HR. They give you your contract, and that’s the last time you had interaction with them before you leave. When you try to give them feedback, they will try to convince you, why poop smells like flowers. 7, C level is arrogant, focuses on short term. They make bold choices, and others have to suffer for it. The company is very hierarchical. “All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal, than others.”
