I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Capital One in Jan 2022
Interview
One or more interviews focused on coding, system design, or technical problem-solving
Common languages: Java, Python
Case interviews may test your problem-solving, analytical thinking, and communication skills—especially for roles like product management or data analysis.
Contacted by a recruiter. Had a virtual code screening that had no human involved. it was the typical 4 coding questions where the first 2 were easy and the last 2 were leetcode mediums/hard. The powerday consisted of a coding question that is more like writing business/production code and less like a leetcode question. The initial scenerio is simple and you have to expand your solution as they add requirements. System design question was banking related. Behavioral interview was typical STAR questions and answers. Problem solving section was just how quickly you can decipher data given to you based off of some rules. I had to understand a ruleset and interpret data based off that ruleset and provide a result. Most likely this piece would be akin to understanding what happened in a complex workflow by looking at some tables/data points within the banking system.
I recieved a verbal offer but then got ghosted. This exact scenerio happened to a friend of mine, so this is likely not a one-off. Beware of making any plans based off of verbal offer. Wait until you get a written offer and sign.
Recruiter Phone interview (15mins) - Online assessment (2hrs) 3 leetcode type of questions, easy-medium-medium. - Power day : The interviewers have thick accent but are usually friendly at the beginning of the call. There were 4 indians who interviewed me. Didnt seem like they were all working from USA. Code - leetcode type of question, write a function about adding two numbers to sum to zero from array. Design Walmart - each store has a UI and a DB- availability, scalable system, infrastructure / system design / database design on a given topic. The guy kept asking "how does the data travel in your system" repetitively in a vague manner which was a yellow flag (He was also working while talking). Like can you understand my answer in English? . Case Study by ♀ interviewer - a given business case but more focused on Testing costs and how cost-prohibitive is testing to each dept . Given a piece of code and data, explain and debug. - Behavioral - 3 questions on "... tell me about a time ...", look up past questions on glassdoor. - After a week recruiter messages me back for a "catch up call" but I responded w/ please email me feedback. In general if the recruiter schedules a short call 1 or more weeks later or ghosts you after the interview then interpret that as a rejection. I got a general rejection email with no viable feedback. If they want you theyll quickly get back to you. There is inappropriate bias in the interview process considering me not matching ethnicities (brwn vs white). They say they grade you on things like results-driven, respect, embracing change and diversity (woke culture), adaptability, but that sounds like bs. Luck plays a key role here
