I interviewed at Lidl (Great Yarmouth, , , England) in Dec 2016
Interview
Applied on line and a few days later I had a telephone interview, this was very standard stuff Why do you want to work for Lidl etc took five minutes. Another couple of days passed and I was invited to interview.
This was broken down into three stages; Work trial sorting through fruit and veg and cleaning some glass, they approached you while you were doing this asking things like what you're doing now what you're looking for etc, I'm not entirely sure what they get from you from this bit though over than some free labour.
Secondly we had to do a bit of roleplay on the till, this was fairly easy just pretend to scan some things through and act like a by the book sales assistant I assume this was to throw you a bit of a curveball and see how you cope with unexpected pressure.
After that was a face to face interview asking in a little bit more depth some of the questions you'd been asked earlier, however at this point they didn't really ask me much and mostly sat there telling me about the role, they noticed I knew an employee of theirs from working with her before in another company, they gave each other a look which at the time I felt was a good sign as they often say who you know helps more than what you know but this turned out not to be the case and perhaps resulted in the opposite? It felt at this stage like they'd already made up their mind and it was a very much going through the motions of phase. They said I would find out before Xmas (interview was a few days before)
On the 23rd I believe I found out I was not successful, no real reason given just the copy and paste more suitable candidates answer, I was very unclear what had gone wrong as I had misinterpreted the interview as going well.
I would apply again in the future despite my experience as it is a well paid job but I would be sure to ask more questions to them, my advice ask for a little feedback while you're there.
I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Lidl (Southend-on-Sea, England) in Sep 2016
Interview
I was taken to the back of the store before being called in for a 1 to 1 interview. Then I was ask to wait until I was taken to the main store for a work trial which consisted of just checking the fruit for quality etc and counting stock on shelves.
