Interview
On 11/28 I applied for the Corporate Communications Designer position. On 12/03 their HR rep called me. Her very first question was, “Are you currently employed?” No, I explained, my last contract ended one year ago (I immediately knew I did not stand a chance of being hired). She asked me to describe my PPT design background as the job description had a strong emphasis on PPT design/development, and I am an expert in this area. She then asked for salary requirements, and the call ended with her explaining that the next step would be a telephone interview with the hiring manager who is located in China. The next day, she emailed me saying the hiring manager “has seen your portfolio but is mostly interested in seeing more of your ppt work,” and to please send samples, which I did. Today, 12/18, I received their automated rejection email. With 17 years of design experience I was 100% qualified for this job. I am confident that the reason I was disqualified from even being granted a real interview was the fact that I am unemployed (it’s either that, or my age, because clearly someone with nearly two decades of experience must be over the age of 30).
