I applied online. The process took 4 months. I interviewed at Slack
Interview
I applied online and it was about 2-3 weeks before I heard back from anyone. There was a phone screen that followed quickly, then about another 2 weeks until a manager phone screen. This was followed by an in-person interview with the manager and director. This interview was a review of my previous experience and roles starting with the roles I had in college. After that was a presentation that I was prepped for by the recruiter. Following the presentation, I was asked for references and then presented with an offer.

Question 1
What would your prior managers (in every single role on your resume) say about you?
I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at Slack (San Francisco, CA)
Interview
I did not apply -- a recruiter cold called me to talk about the role. I had an initial phone screen with the recruiter and was passed on to a phone interview with the hiring manager. The hiring manager was late for our call. Once on the phone, she told me about her experience, the role, and then asked me a few questions about my background and why I wanted to work at Slack. The last part was a timed editing test, which needed to be emailed to me then sent back in an hour. We agreed to a day and time over the weekend for me to do it, but the hiring manager never sent it at said day and time. She responded to my emails the following Monday, sent me the test and told me to send it back whenever I could.
That was the last I heard from them. A few days after completing the editing test, I followed up with the hiring manager directly to see if the position was still open and whether I was still being considered, but no response. About a week later, I emailed the recruiter asking the same thing, but she also did not respond.
If you cold call someone and start them through the process, it's very unprofessional to then go MIA, especially after multiple emails from the candidate for a follow up. Very poor candidate experience.
I applied online. The process took 1+ week. I interviewed at Slack (New York, NY) in Oct 2019
Interview
Had a tech screen interview last week. This has to be the most depressing recruiting call of my life. The recruiter apparently " senior recruiting manager" didn't show any signs that she knew anything about sales pitch and attracting talent.
Started right off bat with dull questions like Why Slack, what excites you, weakness and strengths, your hometown, Why Slack is great etc. etc. Didn't think she was interested in any of the answers. I felt like I was talking to a robot who was acting as programmed. When I got off the call, I let the sigh of relief. This has to be my only depressing and tiring call with technical recruiter. Never mentions anything about Slack in general, their culture or team environment. That left me wondering why she even called.
She calls me back after a week to discuss next steps. But I am so disgusted by her behavior that I told her I am no longer interested in pursuing opportunity with Slack.
If someone from Slack is reading this message, you got to get better and competent technical recruiters. Have someone who is passionate about their job and can give a great sales pitch why Slack is the best place to work with. I am sure I am not the only to talented engineer who experienced this and won't be the last one.
