Pros

People are decent, 10% colleague discount (20% around Christmas), relatively relaxed most of the year, good share save scheme. February Bonus. Great compassionate leave policy.

Cons

Pay is poor and very hard to live off, having to do very long hours to get a reasonable pay packet. Often refuse to give a proper contract preferring you to hold a part time contract whilst doing full time hours and thus preventing you from holiday pay. Have to work a few bank holidays a year, growing reluctance to hire more staff. Regular weekend work often including the entire weekend. No extra pay on weekends. Night rate only kicks in after 10 pm until 6 in the morning so you may be forced to work unsociable hours without a pay rise however night rate is also poor in comparison to most other places.

Pros

Good work once trained if your left to your job Work with some fantastic people across multiple backgrounds

Cons

Steal holiday pay if your holidays are not put in Stuck working both weekend days the past 2 years with them 'looking for a replacement'. Written warnings for doing things as managers do although they don't get disciplined. Written warning for less than a week off over a year although stores absence rate is much higher than my own. Changing your shift pattern without contract change, then 9 months later telling you to go back to your contract hours regardless of how that would affect you Breaching daily rest rule on contracts Massive lack of staff but forcing more experienced colleagues out of the door. Telling you that you cannot have specific holidays as they have no cover, yet when anyone goes on holiday they have no cover, Be given multiple peoples jobs to do including you own.(e.g. work your racking and process it, then take dates off another department, then do markdowns, then work delivery) Being asked to tidy the shelves when the racking has not been worked all day. Not allowed to talk to other colleagues on department even if working. Please note that the recent restructure made the majority of managers redundant (some with over 20 years service at the company) and the ones kept now have to cover sections of the shop instead of single departments
