Pros

Company vehicle and paid gas. Get to meet a lot of people and visit some cool residences. Deploy from your house, no need to go work at retail locations daily.

Cons

No time to take a lunch break (eat while you drive) you are expected to be on-time and your schedule never takes drive distances and traffic into account. Long hours salaried, work overtime no compensation. Work around 60 hours a week including "Days Off" (typical day is 12 to 14 hours only get paid for 8) A lot of pressure to sale $20k a week so you have to convince people to buy stuff they don't need instead of providing real advise, in the comfort of their home! Majority of people need to buy small cheap items ( $200 or less ) so its hard to reach weekly goals. Numbers are pushed to a point that is ridiculous. This is an hourly job, not commission yet you are expected to work like your life depends on getting every single penny out of each customer. You are responsible to meet your goals even if you are on vacation! ( expected to work while on vacation and days off) No demand for the Advisor services in certain markets, as some stores are not sending requests or promote the Advisor's availability. IOt might be hard in certain cities to make it and not get reprimanded for not meeting your goals.

Pros

- A few bucks higher than average pay - Always a lot of employees; great if you need time off - They waste all their money on things like couches, playstations, games, and netflix for the break room which makes breaks more enjoyable. -You often become friends with your coworkers - Great to learn about and keep up with technology -Amazing discounts

Cons

-Literally my store, had half the staff members of a group called 'unite the reich best buy (store#)', and 'hitler wasn't that bad'. I was told jews should get over the holocaust, it wasn't that bad. That minorities deserve genocide. That all blacks and native american customers are thieves, and asians are all cheap perverts. The nazi salute was regularly done in the store on store premises. nothing was done. I repeat. Management punished those who complained. These things all happened at the store, often with customers nearby and when just trying to get work done. -If you are a white man at this company, you will get paid 20/hr. A brown man will get paid 15. a woman, 13. A brown woman gets minimum wage (11). If you ask for a pay raise equivalent to the males who have same experience and service ratings, you will get in trouble. -They also steal wages. My store regularly cut peoples checks by between 10 minutes, to 3 or 4 hours. When people demanded their pay, they were told there is no 'proof' they were there so they don't get paid. People were threatened with firing and fired for asking for their pay. People are pressured into clocking out and then continuing to work with no pay. People are denied their breaks. Those with medical issues are punished for taking breaks for medical reason. People are also denied bathroom breaks and water breaks. All of these things happened nearly every day to the staff of colour and only occasionally to white staff. -WAY too many managers. 5 or so managers who sit on their phone all day. The thing customers don't know is that while best buy is not on commission, the management and supervisors do get commission. So they sit in the back and yell and treat the staff like utter trash, then bring home about 50 000/year before the thousands in monthly bonuses. -Managers and their titles, and the rules, will change every month and they will not tell you. Too many cooks. If you break a rule that was changed yesterday and no-one told you you get yelled at. -Bullying. When you are new you will be hazed. Other staff will call you names, steal your food and hide it...steal your money...put lotion on doors and water on floors, throw things at you, and knock down your work or hide it so you can't get it done. -Overly masculine. Every single upper management is a white man. At meetings it is mandatory to scream, cheer, and play sports, even if you have a medical condition. -They suck up to customers. I witnessed a dude ask for something that was 160$ for free because he wanted it and the manager just gave it to him. If a customer wants it free, you do it. If they ran it over with their car on purpose and the warranty doesn't cover, you refund and give them extra in cash. If they stole it and you have proof, you still refund it and give them coupons and free stuff. The customers know if they are abusive and rude they will get rewarded with money. - I was there for 2 years. By the time I left, a task that in my first months they would have had 3-4 people working on for 8 hrs had one person given 2-4 hours to do. And I never got a raise.

Pros

Competitive salary, though not industry leading. Good opportunity to learn how a large organization functions, and evolves with the current market conditions Company is currently doing very well, so the general mood in the office is very positive and exciting. The employee discount is one of the best! The CHQ (Canadian HQ) in Burnaby has its own gym, mail room and cafeteria, all subsidized. Depends on the team and department, but generally very good work life balance. Cooperative and positive culture.

Cons

Poor HR department that does not support the rest of the business effectively - not very effective at providing recruiting services, not very knowledgeable about the company benefits plan, organizing teach-outs that are very substandard and not well prepared. inconsistent orientation based on which HR employee is available or not. IT department servicing the employees (such as setting up employee laptops and fixing them) is very poorly run. Requests are often ignored, issues take weeks to resolve, new employee laptops are never set up on time - the group has no sense of responsibility which is very frustrating. Growth within the company can be tough due to archaic view of employees - years of experience matter more than individual competencies. It's not as bad as unionized environments but it is still a challenge as the HR department will always stand in the way of your promotion/pay raise as they always try to bring the pay/title back to years of experience.
