Bullying as a management tool

Pros

Interesting environment, interesting prices, highly skilled colleagues - they all made for a job that should have been ideal. A willingness to adapt and invent made for interesting systems to work on, with a forward thinking attitude from the business.

Cons

Under Willy Walsh, bullying has been established as a management tool, ask the whole telling everyone that bullying will not be tolerated. In the same breath as telling the staff that they are valued, central services such as IT are aggressively outsourced to third party petals with a less than viewing track record. And heaven help you if you get ill. BA has a problem of an ageing and expensive staff, but rather than negotiate amicable exits, the management style is to make staying intolerable. Leaving was the best career! I've ever made.

Pros

The flight benefits are a plus but there are other airlines with WAY better flight benefits than BA's. The flexibility is probably the best thing - take off days by getting people to work for you. I'm a part timer but if I wanted to, I could work more than 40 hours by picking up shifts.

Cons

Feels like you're back in HS. Co-workers are horrid. Management is not so great. Supervisors are not all good.

Pros

Cannot think of anything other than the IAMAW! (union) which did a great job winning all those termination and arbitration cases.

Cons

They do not care about their customers or employees. Most of the management do not even care about BA! They are a sorry group of corporate vultures going from airline to airline for a line on a resume sucking the life out of each place they go. They order their employees to lie to customers on a regular basis. They refuse to follow any employment agreement even to their own detriment. Not only would I not work for them, I would never fly them either! The sorriest organization I have ever seen in over 35 years in the workplace!
