Pros

Work colleagues are nice and there is a good social aspect. This is largely due to the people rather than the company however.

Cons

No investment in people or technology. Lack of understanding of companies they purchase. Poor HR (unionise before joining), managers use intimidation to keep staff 'in-line' (threats to job etc.), no appraisal or pay raises, no training

Pros

I can't think of a single good reason to stay there, which is probably why I quit.

Cons

Terrible management. Appalling working conditions. Awful red-tape and mandatory training in basic things like 'how not to be sexist or racist' which is just treating your staff like little children. The machines I was given to work with were so under-powered and crippled with 'security' software that it would take hours to compile the badly-outsourced software I was supposed to maintain. Of course, when I turned up they didn't even have one available for me to use. The secretaries in the main building regard you like something that crawled out from under a rock - despite being an employee of Capita for months, they refused to hand out building door passes to anyone not working in the building (with the only canteen in it), which meant that you had to queue up to get a temporary pass every time you went there. Utterly pathetic. The sales pitch from the Capita recruitment agent was pure fiction from the worst kind from (what I assume must be) some kind of dodgy former used-car salesmen. The area itself (a baron brown-field site turned into a shopping centre and business park) has no redeeming qualities what-so-ever. Parking there is nearly impossible. Adding at least 30 minutes to an already long and stressful drive. The management don't care about this because they all have reserved parking, of course. It is a terrifying prospect to me, being a responsible software developer that companies like this are chosen on a regular basis to provide essential IT infrastructure for the UK. Having seen the sorts of practices in action which are necessary to maintain these terribly architected and horribly maintained systems. My manager assured me they had no intentions of outsourcing to India again (given the acknowledged mess that was made in the past) and guess what? Within two years of my leaving, they sacked all the UK coders and went straight back to India again. Lessons are never learned there. It is so thoroughly depressing that I just couldn't stand to see out the duration of my probation period. I quit after 2.99 months. I tried very hard to make it work there but just couldn't stomach the ineptitude of the management, the environment or the overall 'cancer' in that company.
