Pros

Freedom to think outside the box and bring creative solutions to problem resolutions. You will have the opportunity to expand your skil levels and work outside your defined job role as desired. Due to the size, opportunity to change groups to broaden experience. Definitely a great work experience, but do not stay in the same role, gain experience and then move on to enrich your resume. Do not stay too long if you have career goals.

Cons

Political beast - promotion is difficult unless you are adept at working the system. Projects tend to be grossly underfunded and understaffed in some organizations, with unrealistic expectations. Other organizations are well funded with budget, resources and adequate timelines. Management will push initiatives which will increase their political position and opportunity for the next promotion - not what is the best move for the company. Leaders have lost vision - initiatives are created reactively, not proactively and tossed over the wall for implementation with little or no planning.
