Pros

Enjoy working with other CTMs

Cons

No full-time contract is given—you’ll just be assigned overtime hours without any say in which days you can or cannot work. Managers can exploit this and schedule you every day, leaving you without proper rest. You’ll be expected to do everything on the shop floor, from fulfilling online orders (Uber Eats, Just Eat, Deliveroo) to serving customers and restocking shelves. Meanwhile, managers and team leaders often sit in the office FaceTiming friends. When you ask for support, they complain. There are no real learning opportunities. After a year, the only things I was taught were how to reduce clearance items and how to open and close the store. The store is consistently understaffed, especially in the mornings. There are usually only two people scheduled: the Customer Team Member (CTM) and the team leader. Guess who's out back relaxing, and guess who's doing all the work. The CTM is left to handle everything—even dealing with shoplifters—while the managers sit in the office watching. To make things worse, the pay is terrible considering the current economy and high cost of living.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We're sorry to hear that your experience hasn’t met your expectations. We know how important it is to feel supported, fairly scheduled, and given opportunities to grow. Working in our convenience stores involves serving customers however they choose to shop, whether in person or through online platforms like Deliveroo, Just Eat, or Uber Eats. We know this can be demanding at times, and we encourage colleagues to call on their manager or supervisor for support when things get particularly busy. If you haven’t already, we’d also recommend having a conversation with your store manager or a member of the leadership team to discuss any concerns you may have. These conversations can often lead to practical improvements. In terms of development, we offer a wide range of learning opportunities through our Development Hub, which includes courses designed to help colleagues build skills and progress in their roles. We appreciate your contributions and thank you again for sharing your experience.

Pros

-Decent pay on certain shifts -Coop have good company benefits -other warehouse OPs are good to work with

Cons

-Management are useless -Trainers, Warehouse support assistants, all think they are better than warehouse OPs and are generally just horrible to you -Management have no clue how the job works or how to run a warehouse -Labour management system is massively incorrect but you are still measured on performance -Important issues are not corrected, but instead they make stupid changes to minor rules on the fly -Rota is aweful, expect to have no life -toxic environment -managers get sacked for sexual harrasment and then get rehired -no training or progression unless you are in with a certain crown or you have a manager that is -Again, 95% of the managers are arseholes, will treat you like dirt, you can't have a conversation with them about the job as they have no idea how it works and only care about their little spreadsheets

Thank you for your feedback. We're sorry that you feel this way. We do take your concerns seriously and the allegation of misconduct is particularly serious. We strongly encourage you to provide more information through our former colleague contact form at colleagues.coop.co.uk/contacts so we can investigate appropriately. For clarity, our Labour Management system is developed with independent specialists. It accounts for variables such as breaks and task complexity. Colleagues who are concerned about meeting targets are encouraged to speak with their supervisors for support or adjustments.

Pros

Great culture, colleagues are the reason you stay. Lots of opportunities to get involved in wider programmes. Great work/life balance and support is always available when needed.

Cons

There is a clear ceiling, you only get promoted if your face fits. Too many legacy systems and general disorganisation in the company make it difficult for anything to get done, Co-op typically gets roped into long contracts with ineffective systems. You end up having the same conversations in five years time. There are so many long-standing Co-op colleagues who have built their legacy and are comfortable with their positions (and subsequent salaries) discouraging internal mobility and growth of internal talent.

Thank you for sharing your experiences. We’re glad to hear that you found the culture, work/life balance, and support from colleagues to be positive aspects of your time at Co-op. It’s always encouraging to know that our values and community made a difference. We recognise that individual experiences can shape perceptions, and while we respect your viewpoint, we’d like to clarify that Co-op has robust, fair, and transparent processes in place to support career development and progression. We’re proud of our commitment to social mobility and creating opportunities for colleagues from all backgrounds to grow and thrive within the organisation. Thank you again for your contributions over the years, and we wish you continued success in your career.
